As a math student, I like to find structure in everything. This includes chess. When I look at the game, I see a world of possibilities for analysis. While the standard way to analyze a chess game is to use a chess engine and have it find where you went wrong, I find complete reliance on the computer a sub-par way of looking at the game. I believe humans can prove to be stronger than top computers if we choose to be.
These computers, known as chess engines, are algorithms that have been taught the rules of chess and have been trained to find the best moves in a position by simulating the outcome of different moves. I’ve included a link here to learn about how chess engines are made.
The main distinction I see between computers and humans is the ability to reason. Computers utilize training algorithms, and so are taught to view a position a certain way and value some strategies over others. Humans, on the other hand, can take these same strategies and choose when to apply them. Fundamentally, I think the simple fact that humans made computers and not the other way around is what makes us more powerful than them.
